I NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE

2 Corinthians 5:17: 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
ME: I don’t like change, but change is necessary
- Humans like comfort; we like having a routine.
- Same lunch for years (meals are part of our routine)
- We all probably have our favorite meal at this one restaurant, and that won’t change.
- I have the same morning or gameday routine.
- If I like something, I won’t change it.
- Having a routine is better for mental health, and it helps you feel less anxious
- There are over 8 billion people in the world, most people are going to follow somewhat of a routine. This can be dictated by work, school, family responsibilities, or cultural expectations.
- Working adults: most follow a repeated day-to-day schedule, wake-up time, coffee, commute time, and working hours.
- Students: you follow the class hours, practices, spring/ fall summer breaks, and when you start and end your day.
- We like having our routines; they help structure us.
- Change can be scary; there is a lot of unknown factors with change.

WE: Life is constantly changing
- The whole idea of reels and TikTok is that you can “change” your video in just a swipe.
- Huntsville has changed dramatically over the years
- We change in life: newborn, little, learn how to talk, then we go to school, then we graduate, we go to college, we go to work, then we retire.
- When you turn 16, things change; when you turn 21, things change, I’ve been told when you are 30, things change.
- Since I have been home, the dynamic between mom, dad, and Jackson has changed. We all have changed.
- Even though we don’t like it, life is centered around change.
- Life is full of constant change.
GOD: Jesus will take you just as you are, but then won’t leave you where you are
- You cannot come in contact with Jesus and NOT be changed.
- Jesus is in the “transformation business.”
- Jesus transforms everything — our whole lives are changed when we come to Him. And you see this in the Gospels.
- Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine
- Jesus transformed people’s ability to see, walk, hear, and speak.
- Jesus transformed our idea of death, and because he beat death, we now have the ability to change, the ability to transform.
- Some people might ask, “Will Jesus be able to transform ME?” They think their sins are too great.
- Here’s the reality: he takes you as you are, but won’t leave you where you are.
- When you are transformed, you are a “new creation” — that’s Paul’s point in 2 Corinthians. This is about receiving a new nature, a new heart, transformed desires.
- We can try and make all the physical changes we want to: diet, sleep schedule, working out, but we will never be fully happy and fully whole if we do not have the transformation we can only find in the Holy Spirit.
- The longer you walk with Jesus, the more your desires change. You start thinking the way He thinks. You talk the way He talks, you see others the way He sees them. The change continues to get deeper and deeper the longer you let Jesus lead your life.
- Jesus is never going to leave us. He is always going to be there for us. In the Bible, He says, “I will never leave you, I will never forsake you.” That’s what Jesus promises. For all the changes we experience in life, His presence is unchanging.
- The Holy Spirit is transforming, it has great power.
- The Holy Spirit transformed Paul to Saul.
- There are a lot of things in life that are trying to get our attention and want us to change, but no matter what we do, we can only experience true change and experience the holy spirit through Jesus.
- No matter how broken we are, Jesus is going to take us as we are.
- Jesus makes all things new. “In the name of Jesus Christ, the sovereign Lord who makes all things new”.
- We are one of his sheep; we see in Luke that he leaves the 99 to run after the 1.
- It is like a circle; once you are in, you are changed. You are transformed.
YOU: What does God need to change in your life?
- Is there some struggle that’s constant in your life
- Is there a relationship you need to deal with
- Is there a secret sin you need to let God handle
- The key words here are what does GOD, not you. This is about God doing the work, not YOU.
- He holds the power of transformation. The best we can do is surrender to Him, invite Him to change our hearts, our minds.
- As humans, we try and do so much, we try and control so much.
- I am an 8 enneagram. Control can be hard for me. I like to be in control, call the shots.
- Mrs. Debbbie Wagner: Remember who you belong to — not parents, but God. God has it in control. He won’t let you down
- He is our father; we need to let him take care of it. We need to invite Him into change.
WE: What would it look like if we let God change our hearts?
- Biggest mentor is dad: Dad would not be the man he is today if he had not let God change his heart.
- I would not be up here if God did not change my heart through the Holy Spirit.
- We have to invite God into our hearts, we have to welcome change.
- What could we be as a church
- What could y’all be as a youth group
- Imagine how much our church could be transformed if we all surrendered our hearts to Jesus
- Imagine how Huntsville would be transformed if all of us had the mind of Christ
- My challenge to you tonight is this: What would this town, church, and you look like if we let God change our hearts.
- LET God change your hearts, let him be the King of our lives. Let him fill you with the power of the Holy Spirit. It will change and transform your life.
- Let God change your heart.
